The Challenge

When HCEG Muirfield – a world-renowned private golf venue – approached Abacus Flooring Solutions, the challenge was clear: their internal concrete flooring required a reliable protective system that was easy to maintain, slip-resistant, and suitable for a prestigious environment.

The unsealed concrete had the potential to trap dirt and moisture, becoming both a hygiene concern and an aesthetic weakness in a high-end setting. The client sought a quick yet high-quality solution, ideally one that aligned with modern sustainability standards without compromising on finish.

The Solution

Abacus Flooring Solutions proposed a streamlined, solvent-free resin coating system, installed over two working days with full curing guidance. As part of their sustainability-first approach – and in support of a discounted marketing partnership – the system was provided at a reduced rate without cutting corners on quality.

The works included:

• Mechanical preparation of the concrete substrate using Husqvarna dust-controlled diamond grinders to provide optimal adhesion and eliminate loose material.
• Application of a water-based primer coat, creating a robust base for the build-up system.
• Application of a high-build, solvent-free coloured epoxy resin topcoat, offering a smooth, cleanable, and attractive finish.

The floor was fully cured over a seven-day period, with aftercare guidance provided to prevent staining or early wear.

Sustainable Practices

As with every Abacus project, environmental care and industry-leading innovation played a central role:

• Resin systems were 100% solvent-free and installed in compliance with FeRFA standards.
• Abacus handled waste legally and ethically, removing resin container waste under their licensed waste carrier credentials.
• All repairs were completed using 100% recycled materials, helping reduce the demand for raw materials and landfill waste.
