Following an exceptional first year in business, Abacus Flooring Solutions has been shortlisted as a Finalist in the 2021 Leicestershire Business Awards in recognition of its work developing a more eco-friendly flooring solution.
Abacus was established last year by Nick Megson, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the industry, and the organisation has grown from strength to strength in the months that followed, despite the major obstacles presented by the coronavirus pandemic.
And now the firm has been named alongside three other worthy finalists in the Environmental Impact Award category, which recognises those who put environmental sustainability at the core of their business.
The winning business will be selected based on its ability to demonstrate a measurable commitment to making a positive impact on the environment.
The Awards are organised by the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce.
Abacus founder and managing director Nick Megson said: “We feel extremely proud and humbled to be named on the shortlist of finalists in such a great category.
“I’d like to congratulate the other finalists, Go Travel Solutions, Michael Smith Switchgear and Pacwolf, on their own nominations – we certainly count ourselves to be in great company.
“I’m proud of many achievements from the last year and developing a more eco-friendly flooring solution is one of them.
“We researched and designed a floor screed that can be used in the resin flooring industry, which, instead of using quarried aggregate, is made from recycled white plastics.
“This can include elements like toilet seats and light switches to create an epoxy self-smoothing screen that works extremely effectively.
“The industry the world over uses silicone aggregates, but we didn’t want to do that, so we developed this recycled solution instead.
“I’m grateful that our work in this area has been recognised.”
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in December, and those who are successful will go on to the National British Chamber of Commerce Awards.
